STOP THE BLEED® Kits are more than a minor wound care kit. They are kits specifically designed to include everything needed to control major bleeding or trauma at a scene. STOP THE BLEED® Kits are portable and compact, and designed to be stored in a variety of locations so it’s always available if needed.
In trauma care, bleeding injuries are the leading cause of preventable death. Someone can die within minutes if they lose a significant amount of blood. It is possible to control massive hemorrhage, but a response is needed immediately, by first responders or even bystanders. This is the reason for STOP THE BLEED® – so that even a bystander can feel empowered to help
STOP THE BLEED® kits contain components to address massive hemorrhage and trauma. The intention is for trained bystanders or professional first responders to be able to use these kits to address severe bleeding. Our STOP THE BLEED® kits come in different configurations in order to meet different levels of requirements, training, and financial needs.
- C-A-T® Tourniquet - Tourniquets are used to rapidly stop massive hemorrhaging on limbs. C-A-T Tourniquets are the fastest, safest, and most effective prehospital field tourniquet in the world.
- Compressed / Hemostatic Gauze - Gauze is used to pack a wound at its source, which helps to stop the flow. Gauze is especially useful for stopping the bleed where tourniquets can’t reach, such as a patient’s shoulder. Hemostatic Gauze, such as Quikclot® or Celox™ Gauze, include an additional, embedded agent within the gauze to accelerate the body’s natural clotting process.
- Emergency Trauma Dressing (ETD®) - ETDs are used to cover a wound and assist in applying pressure after a wound has been packed with compressed or hemostatic gauze. Additionally, ETDs can be used as a makeshift sling or splint if needed.
- Trauma Shears - Shears can be used to quickly remove articles of clothing that is in the way of an injury.
- Mini Sharpie Marker - A marker is included with every kit, so that you can write when you applied a C-A-T® tourniquet on the time strap. This will help EMS know how long a tourniquet has been on a patient.
- Gloves - Gloves help you to protect yourself, even as you’re taking care of other people’s injuries.
- Bleeding Control Instructions - While these instructions are not a complete substitute for proper training and practice, they are a guide to help the proper steps to take during an emergency.
- Chest Seal - Chest seals, which are included in all enhanced and premium enhanced kits, can be used to seal penetrating chest wounds. If a patient has a sucking chest wound, air is drawn in through the outside of the lung rather than through the trachea and into the lungs, which can hinder breathing.
- Hypothermia Blanket - (Optional, included our enhanced kits) Hypothermia is a serious possibility regardless of the type of trauma or environment. Hypothermia Blankets, or survival blankets can keep the patient warm while waiting for EMS personnel to respond to an emergency.

We offer kits as individual modules, intended to address a single trauma, as well as multi-trauma kits which contain multiple identical modules for situations where more than one casualty may occur. All of the multi-trauma kits are offered in the personal, premium personal, enhanced, and enhanced premium configurations and different storage options. Consider the quantity needed, location for storage, and response practices when selecting your kit.
